Everyone blamed Avon for risking their lives for nothing or, as Soolin puts it, risking their lives to make Servalan rich. Avon, of course, indulges in one of his typically 4th season manic laughs. However, I think the one they should have been annoyed with is Orac - it seems to me that if there is a weak link in the team that is where it lies. Consider, Servalan must have known that Zeflon was going to join the Federation, hence the pending worthlessness of its currency. She set it all up so she must have known that such moves were afoot. Orac is supposed to be able to access all computers with Tariel cells so he had the information available to warn the crew of upcoming changes. So why did he not step in to warn them? Presumably they did not ask for his opinion therefore in his typically pompous manner he did not bother to offer it. Does Orac only ever respond to direct requests for advice or does he ever offer it unbidden? The only time off the top of my head when I can think of Orac doing so is in 'Headhunter' Julie Horner ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 May 1998 11:15:00 +0100 From: "Taylor, Steve [MIS]" To: blakes7@lysator.liu.se Subject: RE: [B7L] Gold Message-Id: Content-Type: text/plain Julie said: ->However, I think the one they should have been ->annoyed with is Orac - it seems to me that if there ->is a weak link in the team that is where it lies. -> ->Consider, Servalan must have known that Zeflon was going ->to join the Federation, hence the pending ->worthlessness of its currency. Julie asks why didn't Orac say something. Well, either he is being as pedantic as usual, or, Servalan, aware of Orac's capabilities, ensures that no information about the takeover is held anywhere that Orac might access, or communicated on a channel he might intercept/decode. It wouldn't have to be completely secure against him, just against what he's likely to access/intercept, as, let's face it, it's not what they were looking for. I thought that Roy Kinnear said that the ship took itself into orbit and then the pilot came up by shuttle. Not being at home I can't check. But it may have implied by that that the pilot would take the ship down, however I don't think it said it. Mr. Kinnear came down on the shuttle to meet Avon et al and I presume that the pilot then went up. However....... when Soolin and Avon were in the processing plant, didn't they say something about getting back on the Space Princess via the cargo entrance because it would still be loading. Again I would have to check the episode to be sure. I should know really because I happen to like the episode a lot... but I just can't remember. Keiller: "Zerok. A frontier planet, you may not know it, not very modern. I say home, she makes orbit herself and a pilot comes up to take her down." So, assuming it lands, it either has a special cradle, some interesting legs, or some kind of integrity/force field. Also, the passengers may well be drugged, up, but you'd think they'd notice a landing, and possibly even have to be strapped in for safety reasons? Hmm, a plot hole, methinks. Hmm, >a plot hole, methinks. Anyone got a device to plug it? Well I suppose it depends what the technology is like. The passengers may not have to be strapped in. For example in Star Trek when Voyager lands people are not strapped in but they do feel a jolt when the ship finally lands. This jolt could be dismissed as flight turblulance to the passengers and if they are drugged up they may well except this. However, it is a plot hole and we have seen in previous episodes of Blake's 7 (like the Way Back and Cygnus Alpha) that people generally seem to be strapped in for landings in the transport ships. Was there something in her culture that compelled her to die? Yes, that's what I'm saying. She took the glove off deliberately. Remember the discussion between Avon and Tarrant just before Tarrant teleports down? Avon has that knowing look, and Tarrant suddenly realises what Avon is thinking and teleports asap. Andrew Kearley wrote the best story I've ever seen on this topic. He postulated a fair bit of cultural background for Zeeona's world, including a strong code of honour and obligation.
