I _have_ to unsubscribe-- I'm going to New York in a few days time... oh, Edith, why did you have to bring up such fascinating topics just before I go. My 2 cents for now, and I'll be happy to elaborate on anything if anyone wants to hear me blather when I get back. Blake was capable of love/passion-- his feelings toward his cousin were, well, clear enough to make Jenna _quite_ jealous, and gave Travis plenty to manipulate. Jenna and Cally didn't bond... well, there was the human/alien thing bothering them a little, plus, you knnow, some women don't really get into that bonding. Part of it's cultural anyway, so an Auron woman would necessarily make the same kind of chatter and so forth. Well, anyway, I have had a female best friend for like only the second or maybe third time in my life-- I've had male best friends a bit too. But mostly I have very few close friends. Neither Cally nor Jenna seemed really interested in being very social. (except, hehhe, Jenna wanting to get sociial with Blake). Avon was deeply in love with Anna. "She was... important to me." Not much is that important. I also think he was _starting_ to acknowlege a deepening of feeling towards Cally. The "It looks like a door and it's closed" scene was about the only time we see him _really_ seeking out the society of one of his fellow crew, in order to talk about their _feelings_. And "Sarcophagus", I think, was in a way about their budding relationship. Vila would like to be in love. He almost was in love with Kerril, but real love takes time, and they didn't have it. He could NOT be in love with any of the women with Blake's 7. He would like, I think, a deceptively intelligent party girl who was very tolerant and yet knew when to kick his butt into gear so he doesn't actually sabotage himself. Hmmm... Kei of The Dirty Pair comes to mind, if a bit on the bloodthirsty side. Maybe after I'm back and resubbed, I can ask everyone if _Soolin_ is capable of love? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 1 Jul 1998 14:00:27 +0000 (GMT) From: Una McCormack To: Lysator Subject: Re: [B7L] Bloody video tapes (fwd) Message-ID: Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Edith asked me to forward this, which she inadvertently sent just to me. Fortunately for me, i have a friend who is the assistant manager at Blockbuster Video ( a chain video retail store in the USA)and so I have total access to all B7 videos. That was not meant as a boast, really. In response to Una's query, if she is willing to part with a great deal of pounds, she ( or anyone else) can check out the BBc catalogue for North America, which has B7 from time to time. You may also want to check out PBS (Public Broadcasting System in the United States)catalog. B7 was shown in many parts of the US through PBS affilates and they may still be selling the tapes. There are also some independent chains in the US that will ship videos to you- I will get the email addys soon. Anything being sold from the US would be NTSC tapes, though, and hence not of much use to the Brits (except for the rabid collector who feels the need to have NTSC copies of B7 just because.) Of course, I've considered picking up the PAL versions myself, but I can at least rationalise an excuse for that -- the higher resolution is tempting. I really *don't* need multiple copies of the same show, though, so shall probably stick with my NTSC set. - Lisa _____________________________________________________________ Lisa Williams: lcw@dallas.net or lwilliams@ti.com Lisa's Video Frame Capture Library: http://lcw.simplenet.com/ New Riders of the Golden Age: http://www.warhorse.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 01 Jul 1998 17:52:33 PDT From: "Edith Spencer" To: blakes7@lysator.liu.se Subject: [B7L] Love, part two. Message-ID: <19980702005234.7341.qmail@hotmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain To all: Hello again. Just starting out- I did mean to imply in my "sweet love on the liberator" post anything about eros, or sexual love. I hope I did not offend anyone! My interest was more in the Agapos,"platonic" love as we would call it. By that token, I do not mean to dissuade those who think it may have been possible for an erotic attraction to have developed between these people, particularly in a atmosphere as intense as the Liberator. But on the other hand, in an atmosphere like that, where you can get to identify people by smell alone, such desperate, close quarters can bring on feelings of both agapos and disdain. Perhaps that is part what the crew felt for each other- they would risk their lives for each other, and yet when together, can't stand each other. Weirdly, a lot like my family.
